KATY TATE BIO
Born in Georgia and raised in Florida, Katy Tate began dance at the age of three. After graduating with honors from high school, Katy moved to Los Angeles on scholarship at Tremaine Dance Center; training with such teachers as Wade Robson, Doug Caldwell, Terry Beaman, Tyce Diorio, Liz Imperio, Brian Friedman, etc. During that year of study, she also traveled with Tremaine and Co. Dance conventions as their assistant and attended college online through University of South Florida’s Independent Study Program on a full academic scholarship. When her year was done, she signed with K.S.A. Agency and began to work; first on a movie with Sally Field and Minnie Driver choreographed by Paula Abdul and Peggie Holmes, then to stints on Ally McBeal, more T.V. shows, music videos and commercials.
In wanting to continue her higher education by physically attending courses, Katy accepted a show offer at Epcot Center in Disney World; making it possible to attend college in Florida. She studied Psychology and Dance at Rollins College, focusing on Limon, Horton, Graham and Ailey.
In 2002, Katy moved to New Orleans to perform the role of “Go-to-Hell Kitty” in the musical, “Chicago” and the following year moved back to Florida where she was offered the role of dancer in the stage show, “Tarzan Rocks” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In this time, Katy began to choreograph and produce stage shows for bands at Pleasure Island and assisted on choreography for Celebrity Cruise Lines with Hardrive Productions. She also continued to perform outside Disney with Brooke Hogan and Transcon Records, Harley Davidson, Nike, Universal Studios and numerous other outlets.
In 2005, Katy made the move to Las Vegas to perform in the show, “Fashionistas”. In this new place, Katy was inspired to make more of her ideas in creative direction. She soon became resident choreographer for Dreamhawk Productions, creating dance and aerial numbers for corporate events with such clients as IBM, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Honda, Enterprise and many more. She also continued to teach across the country with Dance Masters and Starpower dance conventions.
In 2008, Katy opened Bette Midler’s show in Las Vegas, “The Showgirl Must Go On” choreographed by Toni Basil. Throughout the run of the show, Katy performed on “Oprah”, “The Today Show”, “The View”, “Ellen”, “Kathy Griffin-My Life on the D-List” and danced for President Barack Obama. Her experience of this creation process fueled the fire to be on the other side; seeing the creative vision, collaborating with other artists and seeing it all come to fruition.
Katy has now continued to focus on choreography and teaching along with talent and event management. Producers of different projects have added direction and management roles to her responsibilities in most recent events for Branig, Cosmopolitan Magazine and Nivea. She is currently the Dance Master at The Beatle's LOVE by Cirque du Soleil.
Katy believes in forever being a student, for with each new challenge, a lesson is learned; and with each lesson, a new challenge awaits. Katy humbly accepts that challenge with excitement and an open mind as she steps forward into the new chapters of her life.
