Starz Dance Galaxy Class Descriptions
2024 Recital Week Behind the Scenes
RECREATIONAL DANCE FOR TODDLERS TO TEENS
Tiny Starz - Age 2 - Designed to give our youngest dancers a head start, this class covers basic Ballet and Tap skills as well as terminology. Time is spent learning to follow directions as well as free expression time which allows these Tiny Starz to explore what they are capable of. For many children who start at this young age they will never experience performance anxiety as they learn self confidence very easily at this age.
Pre-Starz 1 - Age 3 to 4 - This course builds the basic conditioning, flexibility and knowledge for young dancers to be ready to grow into all dance styles. The focus is on Ballet which is the foundation of all dance styles and Tap which helps young minds develop musicality. Children will learn to control their bodies as well as focus in a way that will help them in all aspects of learning even outside the dance studio.
Pre-Starz 2 - Age 4 - The next step in the learning chain, Pre-Starz 2 picks up the pace of learning for young dancers who now have basic knowledge of terminology and technique as well as more developed motor skills and better focus to learn at a faster pace. The focus is still on Ballet and Tap styles but with a slightly more demanding pace. Jazz is also introduced towards the end of the season in preparation for Combo 1.
Combo 1 - Age 5 to 7 - Focus is place on Ballet and Jazz technique in this class. At this age children will now have better ability to use their bodies and will increase their physical capacities through the conditioning provided. Basic movements will be combined in series and create more of a true performance feel for what they are able to accomplish at this age. This combo class is usually taken in tandem with one elective course chosen from Jr. Acro, Jr. Tap or Jr. Hip Hop. This is also the age when those that are interested begin to consider competitive level training with our Rizing Starz Performance Company.
Combo 2 - Age 6 to 7 - Ballet and Jazz is again the focus. For those that have begun to master the techniques from Combo 1 this class picks up the pace of learning and difficulty of movements that are taught to continue to challenge dancers as they abilities grow. Jr. Acro - Age 5 to 7 - Core strength, flexibility, tumbling and basic floor tricks are developed to expand a dancers skill set while developing power that will help in all dance disciplines. Acro skills are the basis for all of the moves that add wow factor to a routine through a combination of balance, contortions and flight.
Jr. Hip Hop - Age 5 to 7 - Quickly becoming a classic in its own right, Hip Hop is the style that kids see in many movies and music videos instantly proclaiming "I want to do that!". In Jr. Hip Hop children will begin to understand the movements and styles that will be allow them to "do that". Hip Hop is also vital to any classically trained dancer who wants to become a working professional if movies, television or live entertainment.
Acro 1 & 2 - Age 8 and up - For those looking to develop more advanced tricks and perform the basics more effectively Acro 2 and Acro 3 continue building on the foundations learned in Jr. Acro. Skills will be taught at a level that allows tricks to be integrated into performance routines where it is necessary to seamlessly execute skills in succession.
Ballet 1 & 2 - Age 8 and up - Children moving up from Combo 2 can now have an entire class focused on Ballet. All other classic dance forms are built upon the foundation of the skills learned through Ballet. Whether looking to develop the skills to move into competitive dance or simply to keep progressing your technique for the pure joy of dance Ballet 1 and Ballet to will allow you to grow.
Contemporary 1 & 2 - Age 8 and up - As a style many consider Contemporary to be the most emotional form of dance. While it utilizes technical skills from many other forms there are no boundaries in Contemporary, no right or wrong. This freedom allows Contemporary dancers to express their feelings and emotions directly through their performances. We simply help them grow.
Hip Hop 1 & 2 - Age 8 and up - Moving up from Jr. Hip Hop or just jumping in to the world of dance our Hip Hop classes will teach kids the skills to do what they see on TV and in the movies. It doesn't happen overnight but it is amazing how quickly children develop in this style because they know doing it right will look good even to their friends who do not dance.
Jazz 1 - Age 8 and up - In mainstream entertainment if it is not Hip Hop it is Jazz. This style is so popular in the world of pop music a sub genre called "Video Jazz" has grown to encompass most of the dance seen in Top 40 style videos and on stage during concerts with all the biggest names in music. We help older children develop the ability to turn and leap like a pro with a style that is very NOW.
